The sun was shining brightly on Trinity Sunday, 4th June! At 6.30pm, the Archdeacon of Bath, Dr Adrian Youings, assisted by Mrs Sandra Edgerton, led our service of Choral Evensong with the Choir of the United Parish, directed by Mrs Tricia Rees-Jones, with Jean at the organ. We were delighted to welcome our Archdeacon and Sandra, as well as our good friends in the Choir. There was some glorious music and singing, with the Archdeacon congratulating the Choir, which he described as giving the Cathedral Choir a run for their money! Adrian spoke clearly and with compassion and understanding about the power in our lives of the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The church was nearly full and almost everyone stayed afterwards to enjoy the drinks and canapés served in the churchyard. We were so pleased to welcome everyone on such a beautiful evening and thank all who participated and those who provided food and drinks.
And we’re very grateful to Sandra for participating in the service, and to Archdeacon Adrian for his presence, particularly as it transpired he was unwell.
Our planning application for a small wooden building in the churchyard to house an accessible WC and kitchenette is ongoing. A Site Meeting has been held with the Planning Officer and the Arboricultural Officer and significant progress has been made. We are undertaking further investigations and are working to achieve the national and local requirements to protect the yew trees. We are hopeful of a positive outcome in due course.
Just a word to say that the National Garden Scheme opening in Stowey will be on Sunday 23rd July from 2pm to 6pm. There’s an article about this elsewhere in the magazine. If you’d like to contribute any plants to the Plant Stall at Dormers, please bring them along on the Saturday if possible, labelled if you can! The Teas and Plant Sales are cash only; but you can pay for the gardens visit by card at Dormers.
