We had a very successful and well attended Harvest Festival Choral Evensong on 2nd October, when we were joined by the Choir of the United Parish, led by their Musical Director, Tricia Rees-Jones, with Jean Routley at the organ. It was a truly memorable service, with marvellous music and singing and we’re very grateful to the Choir for visiting us.
It was also our Rector, Mark’s, last major service, which made it a fitting occasion for the congregations of Stowey and Bishop Sutton to thank him for his ministry amongst us for the last 9 years. Mark was presented with a cheque, a collage of photographs of both churches and a farewell card signed by a great many of us. Afterwards, we all enjoyed drinks and a generous spread of finger food and canapés. Thanks to all who contributed to this; it was much appreciated. The collection taken at the service was divided between the two local Foodbanks at Keynsham and in Withywood and each received just over £190.
Looking ahead, on Sunday 6th November at 6:30 pm, we have Evensong for All Souls at Stowey Church, when we remember those we have loved to have died. If you wish to have the names of your loved ones read out in the service, please let me know. The service will be led by Mrs Mary Dolman, Archdeaconry Warden of Readers for Bath. Dr Andrew Day is playing the organ, as Jean is unable to be with us. This is always a very meaningful service and everyone is welcome.
This is the only Service at Stowey in November, as the Remembrance Day service at 10:30am on 13th November will be held at Holy Trinity. On the following Sunday, 20th November, we will also be at Holy Trinity for a service of Holy Communion celebrated by Rev’d Canon Tony Wilds. The Choir of the United Parish will be with us and the congregation will be augmented by the congregations of Stowey and the United Parish. Finally, at 6:30pm on Sunday 27th November, we are all invited to West Harptree Church for Advent Evensong. You will see from all this that we are working closely with the United Parish and Holy Trinity, particularly to give support to Holy Trinity, to ensure that Church remains open. Please join us…you will be warmly welcomed!
