Dear Friends and Neighbours,

In our readings this week, links below, Isaiah paints a moving picture of God hosting a rich feast for all people, wiping away every tear and removing the heavy shroud of sorrow that so often hangs over the world. It’s a tender reminder that no matter how overwhelming life’s hardships can feel, God is ultimately preparing a place of joy, comfort, and restoration for us.

Paul offers a warm, encouraging hug in letter form, reminding us to hold on to joy, gentleness, and peace. Rather than letting anxiety consume us, he invites us to bring every worry to God with thankful hearts, promising a peace that guards our minds even when things don’t make sense. By encouraging us to fix our thoughts on whatever is true, noble, and lovely, Paul gives us a gentle roadmap for navigating daily life with hope and grace.

At first glance, the parable of the wedding feast can feel striking, but at its heart is a powerful call to dynamic love. God extends a broad, generous invitation to everyone—inviting all of us into the celebration regardless of our background. Yet, the story also gently reminds us that accepting the invitation means letting ourselves be changed by it, dressing our hearts in love, humility, and readiness to live out the good news.

Together these readings offer a comforting anchor for our fast-paced, often anxious world. Isaiah reassures us that our future is held in God’s loving hands, Philippians gives us the tools to protect our mental and spiritual peace day-to-day, and Matthew asks us to actively open our doors and live out that faith. Today, we are invited to pull up a chair to God’s table, breathe out our worries, and share that same welcoming warmth with those around us.

Yours in Christ

The Collect of the Day

O God, forasmuch as without you we are not able to please you;

mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.     Amen

Collect from the Book of Common Prayer:

O God, forasmuch as without thee we are not able to please thee; Mercifully grant, that thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen

For your prayers

Please pray for…

…the Church, and for all who serve her, especially our Archbishop Dame Sarah, Bishops Michael and Fiona and our clergy in this Diocese: that God may grant them wisdom, strength, and grace to proclaim the gospel with courage; that, fixing our minds on whatsoever is true, pure, and lovely, we may all faithfully serve Him in our generation;

… our Benefice, especially during this vacancy, that our faith stays true and strong. Father God, give us grace to do your will in all that we plan and do that our works may bring glory to your Name.

…the world, for the nations of the earth, for reconciliation where there is hatred and conflict, for justice to the poor and the excluded: that King Charles, and the leaders of all nations seek justice, cultivate gentleness, and foster that peace which passeth understanding, so that all people may dwell in safety and hope;

…our local community, family and friends that our Heavenly Father, who hath bound us together in a common life, may teach us to love one another, to welcome the stranger, and to care for the vulnerable; that we may share his gifts with open hands, kindness and grace;

…the sick and the suffering, and for all who are in any need: that the Lord, who is the strength of the weak and the comfort of the afflicted, may hear our prayers for all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit, that he may relieve their distress and calm their fears;

… those who have died and rest in the peace of Christ, and those whose anniversary falls at this time … that we may be granted with them, and with all the saints, the joy of eternal life.  Strengthen all who grieve, with comfort faith and peace,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen
