Dear Friends,

This week we give thanks for the mystery and wonder that is God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One God in perfect love and communion. As we meet to worship, let’s not see Trinity Sunday as presenting us with some great problem to be solved, but rather as an opportunity to be in the presence of God who created us, redeemed us and remains with us always.

In our reading from 2 Corinthians, Paul closes his letter with words of encouragement and blessing, ‘Put things in order… agree with one another; live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you’  before giving us the familiar blessing ‘The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you’. In these familiar words we get a sense of the life of the Trinity flowing toward us and through us as grace, love and fellowship shapes us as Christ’s people.

In our passage from Matthew’s Gospel, the risen Jesus meets his disciples on the mountain and sends them out into the world with the words, ‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.’. And he gives this wonderful promise, ‘Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age’.

As we gather this week, let’s pray that we may we be drawn more deeply into the life of the Holy Trinity, and strengthened to worship God with joy, and to serve Christ in the world with faith, hope and love.

Yours in Christ,

Ian

2 Corinthians 13: 11-end

Matthew 28: 16-end

Almighty and everlasting God,

you have given us your servants grace,

by the confession of a true faith,

to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity

and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity:

keep us steadfast in this faith,

that we may evermore be defended from all adversities;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

BCP Collect:

Almighty and everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: We beseech thee, that thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities, who livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.

For your prayers

Please pray for…

… love and fellowship within God’s Holy Church throughout the world … that our faith may be deepened, we may be united in peace and strengthened to witness to Christ with joy and courage;

…  our world … where there is conflict and division, bring healing and understanding …  that the leaders of nations will be guided in the ways of justice, wisdom and peace;

…  all who are in need … those who are ill or anxious, grieving or lonely, those weighed down by hardship, and all who long for comfort and hope;

… those who have died and rest in the peace of Christ, especially Alan Sutton (Felton) and Robert Harding (Chew Stoke) and those whose anniversary falls at this time … rest them in your eternal love, and bring comfort and strength to all who mourn.
