DESCRIPTION:This year’s NGS Gardens open will taken place on Sunday\, 21st July 2024 2pm – 6pm.  There will be four gardens open in Stowey and there will be a combined entry fee of £7.  Teas will be served at The Mead and there will be plants for sale at Dormers.  This is a very important fundraiser for the church with all the proceeds from the teas\, plant sales and bric-a-brac being received by us.  We do hope you will come along and support us and that the sun will shine.

DESCRIPTION:It’s Plough Sunday on 7th January 2024 and we’re planning a special service at 10.30am that day to celebrate and give thanks for the traditional start of the planting and growing season. \nKeith Wyatt has agreed to bring his modern tractor and plough and to park it on the green outside the Church. The service will be taken by our friend\, Rev’d Trevor Stubbs\, and will take place partly inside the church and partly on the green. So come dressed for all weathers please! Wellies are fine! \nOur very own Tom Rogers\, himself a countryman and farmer\, will be playing the organ. We’ll sing some well-known and well-loved hymns. A number of farming people will be in the congregation\, but everyone is welcome!

DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 18th July\, from 2 pm to 6 pm\, 4 gardens in Stowey will be opening under the National Garden Scheme. This year\, the garden at Vicarage Cottage will be opening again\, after a gap of several years\, joining the gardens at Dormers\, Stowey Mead and Manor Farm. Plants will be on sale at Dormers and wrapped home-made cakes and scones\, together with other delights\, will be on sale at The Mead. Whilst we aren’t able to provide Teas this year\, due to the current situation\, ice creams will be on sale at Manor Farm. \nGarden owners have been hard at work to ensure everything looks its best on 18th July. Each of the gardens is very different in character and each reflects the interests and skills of its owners\, past and present. The 4 gardens really do have many areas of interest\, including flower packed borders\, wildlife ponds\, vegetable gardens\, orchards\, an incredible rockery bank\, exotic beds\, sweet peas\, lawns\, unusual trees and shrubs\, topiary\, and plenty of seating with lovely views! Some of the landscaping is historic\, some done relatively recently; but it is all beautiful and well worth a visit. \nThere is ample off-road parking at Dormers in Stowey Bottom\, (BS39 5TL). Admission remains at £5 per adult\, with accompanied children under 16 being free. All admission fees are given to the National Garden Scheme\, which distributes the money to various healthcare charities\, including Macmillan Cancer Support\, Marie Curie Cancer Care\, Hospice UK\, Carers Trust and Parkinsons UK\, to name a few. Plant\, cake and craft sales are in aid of Stowey Church. \nPlease come along and support this event. You’ll be benefitting some very worthwhile causes and having an enjoyable afternoon looking at some beautiful and tranquil gardens which aren’t normally open to the public.
