DESCRIPTION:Stowey Church is hosting the 6th in a series of occasional Organ Recitals by leading organists.  The Programme contains music from Mediaeval to Modern to reflect the history of this ancient building\, said to have been dedicated in 1235.  The Programme culminates in a piece specially commissioned from David Bednall by a Stowey parishioner which will have its world premiere at the concert. \nThe recital will be live screened within the church courtesy of the Bristol and District Organists’ Association\, enabling everyone to have a good view of David’s skills on the manual and pedals. \nTickets are available\, price £15 to include interval refreshments\, from sue.skinner@stoweychurch.com or from Jill Nicol on 01275 333456.

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the first phase of the restoration works to the Henry Strachey murals has started.\nThe Henry Strachey murals are currently being cleaned and conserved by art conservators Lisa Shekede and Stephen Rickerby.\n\nLisa and Stephen are international wall painting Conservators.\n\nPast and current projects include Byzantine churches in Cyprus\, ancient tombs in Egypt\, Buddhist caves and temples in China and Bhutan\, Orthodox churches in Georgia and rock-cut churches in Ethiopia.\n\nThey also work on a wide variety of wall paintings and decorative schemes in the UK\, from the medieval to the modern period.\n\nIn this illustrated presentation they will tell the story of how the murals were created and describe their place in the mural revival movement of the early 20th century.  They will also talk about the processes and challenges involved in rehabilitating the paintings.\n\nThis is a free event but booking is essential as we are limited with numbers.  If you would like to attend\, please email Elaine Daly at activities.stoweyrevived@outlook\,com.  Unfortunately\, if you have not prebooked\, entry will not be possible.

DESCRIPTION:It’s Plough Sunday on 7th January 2024 and we’re planning a special service at 10.30am that day to celebrate and give thanks for the traditional start of the planting and growing season. \nKeith Wyatt has agreed to bring his modern tractor and plough and to park it on the green outside the Church. The service will be taken by our friend\, Rev’d Trevor Stubbs\, and will take place partly inside the church and partly on the green. So come dressed for all weathers please! Wellies are fine! \nOur very own Tom Rogers\, himself a countryman and farmer\, will be playing the organ. We’ll sing some well-known and well-loved hymns. A number of farming people will be in the congregation\, but everyone is welcome!
